The Tiramisu Hero – a Roman cat mascot called Sir Antonio

TGIF!
I admit, I’m a bad blogger… Heck, I’m terrible. I just checked and my last post was April…

While I have soooooo many things to post – cafes I’ve been to, nailart to share, I haven’t found the time to do so.

Yes yes, some may say we should try and commit some time to write our posts, but hey, I haven’t got a laptop at home, and typing a whole chunk of words on my mobile via the wordpress app is tiring. Super.tiring.

Well, back to the subject matter at hand…

I visited this cafe back in April and that marked the start of my monthly cafe hopping trips with my longtime friend Candy ❀

The Tiramisu Hero.

The first cafe we visited in the Jalan Besar area.
It was our first time at that area so we didn’t know which route to take, so instead of walking straight, past the Jalan Besar stadium like we should have (since it was the easiest route), we actually walked to the CC instead! Then past the swimming complex and finally found the place…

Ahhh, a pretty lawn right outside (nope, I didn’t take a photo). We would’ve opted sitting outside but it was drizzling so off to the comfort of shelter we go… Also, thanks to the rain, we got a seat immediately! We even managed to switch seats. Hahah.

All over the walls were pictures of their mascot – Sir Antonio.
image

image

Peekaboo!

Ladders on the ceiling?? Interesting….
image

I love the cover of their menu, back to basics with just black on white.

image

Oh and before I start on the food… look at this! Thought it was pretty cute, though I didn’t take a photo on the actual snails… heh
image

Alrighty, off to the food we ordered.
We looked through the menu, back and forth, and decided to order a couple of things to share.

Here’s the almost-cliche over-the-top food picture:

image

For starters, we had Chunky Mushroom Soup ($6):

image

The soup was creamy but not overly creamy. Though I thought the star of this dish is, ironically, the garlic bread. It is to die for. I loved it! And you can order it as a side too. I would have but since we already placed our other food orders, I decided to forgo it… ._.

Our main was this Hero Fun Pun Bun ($9.80):

image

image

We didn’t see many reviews on this, so we decided to just try for it ourselves. Plus it had a heart next to this, pretty sure that means one of their favorites. Hahah. The pork was succulent and the egg balanced the whole thing so it didn’t get overly saltish with the meat and bacon. Not too bad!

Coffee time!

Candy had the Mocha ($5.50):

image

And I had the Vanilla Latte ($6.50):

image

I loved the Vanilla Latte. It’s about the best vanilla latte I’ve had. The aroma of the coffee and the vanilla was so well balanced (not overly sweet!). It was so fragrant and rich! I was in loooooove ❀

For desserts…
We ordered the Waffles Woo ($7) and topped it with Strawberries (+$2).

image

The waffle is light and fluffy! The strawberries fresh. Simplicity at its best πŸ™‚

And we couldn’t just leave this place without trying their famous tiramisu now can we… Of course not!

We had the Milo Mommahero ($7.50)! Their signature packaging is oh-so-cute and that stamp!!! And it was good too!

image

image

Even we had to take a photo each with the cute jar ^-^

image

Now we’re all fed, it’s time to go… Candy couldn’t resist having a Sir Antonio headshot:

image

Awww and I thought this was pretty cute:

image

And that was it!

Now it’s your turn to visit The Tiramisu Hero! (The link leads you to their website)

The Tiramisu Hero is located at:
121 Tyrwhitt Road
Singapore 207548

Till next time!

Oh and this is me… signing off!

The Orange Thimble – a cafΓ© with an art twist

Hello peeps!

So I was in the Tiong Bahru area, wandering street after street, thinking of where to have dinner. After much thought, we finally decided on this – The Orange Thimble.

The Orange Thimble – where art meets cafΓ©.

image

Beautiful drawing β™‘

Simplistic decor with a cozy feel, yet still pretty spacious,  that makes one not only comfortable but also hits you with waves of nostalgia. Sofas, chairs, cushioned chairs – take your pick. And while sitting there, take a look at the art hanging on the wall. Beautiful.

Now, on with the food….

Caramel Macchiato (regular – i.e. hot) – $5.50

image

Caramel Macchiato β™‘

The caramel blended so well that it gave a sweet tinge to the otherwise bitter coffee. Smooth and light.
The gem biscuits (reminiscence of childhood days…) was a delightful addition as well.

Iced Caramel Macchiato$7.50
image

Doesn’t suit my taste. The ice may have also diluted the flavor a bit…
Bit on the bitter side this one which was kinda surprising since we saw a layer of sugar syrup settled at the bottom of the cup when we first got it…

Smoked Salmon Baguette$10.90
image

Ahhh fresh baguette, and even more importantly – fresh smoked salmon. Lovely combination and pretty light too. Thumbs up!

Beef Shepherd’s Pie$9.90
image

One of the better shepherd’s pie I’ve tasted. The top potato part was not overbaked which is great. Every mouthful was filled with beef and mushroom and some potato chunks here and there in the mash which I love.

It’s a good place to relax. Be it catching up with friends or just sipping coffee reading a book.
I saw ice creams & cakes/desserts displayed but have yet tried it. I’d prolly drop by another day to try those tempting yummies.

If you’re around Tiong Bahru, why not pop by for a visit?

The Orange Thimble is located at:
56 Eng Hoon Street #01-68,
Singapore 160056

Have you visited The Orange Thimble? How was your experience?
Also – do hit me up if you have must-go cafΓ©s to recommend!

Till next time!

XOXO

Saturday with the GFFs β™‘

Hello hello! I know it’s been a while. I’ve been so caught up with everything else that I’ve neglected this blog. (._.)

Well today I went with my GFFs to watch Hossan Leong’s A Singaporean in Paris!
image

It was sooooooo good. Magnifique! The set, the songs, the singing, the performance was wow. I really enjoyed myself! We thought of perhaps buying a copy of their CD or something cuz we really enjoyed the songs but alas, there was none.

After that, we went to Createaf Waffles (located at the 1st level of The Cathay) for some waffles that we’ve been craving for weeks!

image

Createaf Waffles

And we ordered a set “meal” each ($12.50). Each set comes with your choice of waffles and drinks. When you do the math, it’s pretty worth it – if you’re getting drinks along with your waffle that is. Each waffle set is priced at $9.90, and drinks are mostly $4.90 to $5.50.

Here’s what we got:
Sinfully Chocolate

image

Sinfully Chocolate with vanilla ice cream

Sinfully Chocolate was, well, all chocolate. Reeeeally sinful. It was waffles topped with chocolate syrup & coco crunch. The vanilla ice cream was made with actual vanilla beans so it’s fragrant.
Anyone who has baked and used vanilla beans before can tell you that it’s faaaaaar from what you get with the regular vanilla essence/flavor you get from stores. Really different. But they’re so hard to get (and so expensive here in Singapore! Le sigh~)
Okay, back to the topic at hand…

Banana Chocolate
image

Ahhh. An all time favorite combination. Who doesn’t love the good ol’ banana and chocolate combi! Again, sooooo sinful yet so good! I’m not a lover of matcha green tea ice cream but my GF said it was good, and she left it to the last to slowly savor it…

Merry Berry

image

Merry Berry with hazelnut ice cream

Before I go on… let’s take a look at the closeup of this baby…

image

All those fresh strawberries and blueberries! β™‘

This was my choice of waffles. I wanted to go for something chocolate but those 2 ladies already chose it, so I went for this and boy was I pleased with my choice! The maple syrup at the side was the cherry on top, it complemented so well. Strawberries and blueberries were fresh and sweet too. Really hits the spot this one! Absolutely loved it! β™‘

And my choice of drink was a Roasted Tea Latte:
image

It’s basically roasted oolong tea with milk (thus the ‘latte’). Not my wisest choice but I thought I’d go with something different… the smell was really overpowering, and I only managed to get through half a cup.
Buuuuut, that elephant on top! Ain’t it cute!!

First a play, then waffles – this is the life!

Till next time~

October 2013 Bellabox

Once again, it took me so long to reveal my October bellabox…

Bellabox turns 2!

image

Here you see a collage of their past year’s theme. Beautiful no?

And because this month is so special, even the packaging is special!

image

Oh, did I mention that we got a free Cosmopolitan Magazine too? Sweet!

So here’s what’s in my Bellabox bella-pouch:

image

Let’s get to the nitty gritties…

1) Elizabeth Arden Untold eau de parfum spray, 1.5ml

image

Said to be a “sensual floral scent” and “fit for the modern woman”. I caught a sniff of it and I quite like it. It’s not too floral-y sweet, which I quite like. But I don’t think I’ll wear it on a day-to-day gotowork basis. It’s a lil strong for me.
For daily wear, I prefer lighter scents.
But this I would wear for dates or just going out after work.

RRP:
30ml/$69 ; 50ml/$95 ; 100ml/$119

2) Jacqueline Burchell, 2 x 5ml

image

It’s nail polish! Eek! Can you tell my excitement?
Oh and I heard about this brand before. One of my nail gals over on Instagram was asking me about it some months ago. She had nothing but raving comments on how fantastic this is. So I am super excited to receive this!! I need to try these soon!! Glittery goodness! And it’s also 3-free! Plusssss, it’s researched and developed here on our very lil island Singapore! Super stoked!
(See what nail polish does to me?)

RRP:
15ml/$18 ~ $26 (per their website)

3) Indio Cosmeceutical Renew Cream,10ml

image

Seems to be “suitable for all skin types”. It’s an “anti-aging cream designed to soften, gently exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin”. This sounds interesting, and I always enjoyed the exfoliating feeling for my face. Will try this one soon!

RRP:
50ml/$119.50

4) Veet, 25gms

image

This is quite a famous brand of shaving cream. Blade-less shaving too. I haven’t tried it before, but seeing that now I have 2 of these (1 from my gift box last month), I will give it a go!

RRP:
100ml/$11.80

5) Cellilux Deep Sea Secret Glacial Mineral Gel, trial pack

image

It’s a gel mask apparently! That helps “rebuild skin’s elasticity”.
It also claims to “detoxify, hydrates and exfoliates the skin, resulting in brighter and youthful looking skin”!

RRP:
60ml/$78

6) L’oreal Paris Extraordinary Oil, 3.5ml

image

Lightweight,Β  instant shine, nourishing protection. Makes hair more gorgeous and manageable.
Oh I hope this works!

RRP:
100ml/$23.90

So here it is, my October Bellabox.

What did you get for yours?

Dr. G Total Active Dual BB Cream SPF50+ PA+++

BB Cream with sun protection! Woot woot.

5) Vaseline Healthy White Perfect 10, 25ml

Irodori Japanese Ala-Carte Buffet

Last night, the boyfriend booked a place for us at Irodori! It’s a japanese buffet that I have been wanting to try a looooong time. I heard that it’s not easy to make a reservation so I’m surprised when he told me on Thursday that we’ll be dining there on Saturday!

image

Colors, colors everywhere!

Stepping in, almost all seats are taken. No wonder you gotta make a reservation before going, looking at their reservation list – it’s full house!

So I’ve read about reviews about how unfriendly their staff were but they looked rather pleasant to me! Most of them were all smiles πŸ™‚

image

Let the feasting begin!

These 2 dishes are not on the menu, but you can only have 1 serving per pax…

image

This…is a palette cleanser I believe.Β  But it tastes soooooo good! The tofu was sooooooo silky smoooooth! Love it!

image

Grilled Mentai Prawns

This was absolutely delightful as well! Fresh succulent prawns with the delicious mentai sauce. Yummmm!

And the rest of the food we ordered… we ordered repeatedly for some… hahah.
Not gonna do a commentary on every dish, so just enjoy the pictures!!

And there were a few others that I didn’t photograph…

Overall, for $35++ ($41.20 billed), there was quite a variety to choose from. For sashimi lovers, just order sashimi at your free will, and it’s all worth it already. Plus the sashimi is really fresh! And they are not stingy with the proportion served.

An interesting thing about this place is that when you place an order, they will ask you how many pieces of that item you’d like – that’s pretty smart! And there should be less wastage with this system πŸ™‚

Waiting time in between orders varies. Sometimes it comes really promptly, but sometimes we’d have to wait for quite a while….

Will I go back another time? Yup, I sure will. I’m thinking of bringing my parents along the next time.

Have you been to Irodori? How do you like it?

Till next time!

P.S. if you notice, I didn’t watermark my photos this time around. My photos have been going wonky and all rotated for my past few posts, so I’m a lil annoyed by that cuz I don’t know the cause or how to fix it! Baaaah…

Foodie time with le mummy β™‘

Goooooooood morning/afternoon/evening (depending on where you are and what time you’re reading this) πŸ™‚

So I took the day off yesterday and spent some time with my mum. We went in search for foooooood.

First up, Bear Bites @ *SCAPE

image

This hails from Taiwan, famous in one of its night markets, and it’s now in Singapore!
I first saw this on a local paper when they first started out. And the pictures were just too cute!
I tried to bug the boyfriend to go with me but he wasn’t interested, at all. Boo.
Then, on Tuesday night, a food show on Channel 8 recommended it and that is how I convinced my mum to go with me.

The first thing you see right outside is these signs:

image

image

We ordered 1 set to share.
We went with the Chicken + Oat bun + Mushroom sauce meal (I.e. fries and a bottle of green tea) – $8 (the sauce was $0.20).

image

image

image

Pawprint!

#cressays:
It’s like eating “kong ba pao” (a type of bun with braised pork – picture of it later) but with fried chicken. That was the idea that inspired this actually – the fusion of Western and Asian.
The bun was really soft! But the chicken was….not really well marinated. I munched on a part that was tasteless and one part was marinated… so that could be improved I suppose πŸ™‚
As for the fries, I’m not a fan cuz it’s all soggy.
Overall it was a nice experience! But am not sure if I’ll go back there anytime soon.
Oh and this is the “kong ba pao” I was referring to…

image

This was dinner tonight!
Usually it’s without the roman lettuce but I like to add some in mine to make it crunchy and it helps with the taste πŸ™‚

Back to yesterday….

Next stop – dessert!
We headed to Taiwan Xiao Chi at Centrepoint.
Again, the food show the night before featured their dessert – one of my all time fav Taiwanese dessert – sweet potato and yam chewy balls θ•ƒθ–―ε’ŒθŠ‹εœ† (not sure how to describe it…)

image

White - Yam; Orange - Sweet Potato

image

Pretty disappointed on first looks

But, boy were we disappointed…
1) out of 3 base choices, there was only 1 left (warm grass jelly) as the cold options were “out of stock”
2) the “warm” grass jelly is cold on the inside… so…that’s not really warm now is it…
3) I wanted to get this “mango and coconut noodle ” dessert – sounds interesting no? BUT, the coconut noodles was (again) out of stock

So we got this instead…

image

Which was like chicken floss, some egg and cauliflower with some chilli flakes wrapped around with instant prata (those frozen one you can get in supermarkets).
Nope, not impressed.

#cressays:
The dessert was alright…. nothing fantastic, nothing like the one advertised on TV….
I much prefer the one at Blackball. That IS da bomb. I need to go back there and get one soon…
And well, you should know how I feel about the other one…

In the evening, we went to have some hor fun!

image

This is yummy! A lil salty, but it was gooooooood. So at least our day ended well!

So there it was, my foodie day with le mummy. It’s nice spending time with her after a hectic period at work πŸ™‚

Oh, and happy mid autumn festival!
β˜…δΈη§‹θŠ‚εΏ«δΉ!β˜…
Here is what I bought for my mum…

image

And this is what she made! Shanghai yam mooncakes!

image

Look at the moon tonight! It’s exceptionally round and bright πŸ™‚

So what did you do today?
What’s your latest food adventure?
Would you give the Bear Bites a try?

Till next time!

XOXO
