August 2013 Black Box

The weekend is finally here!
And this morning, I received my long awaited Black Box!

For those who are unfamiliar with Black Box, it’s a free bi-monthly subscription box, the first in Singapore, that contains a mix of things for all. The samples/products ranges from lifestyle goodies, food samples to coupons and beauty samples. There’s always something for everyone.

So seeing that the last box was in May, this box should have been out and about in July. But due to overwhelming responses and the fact that they wanted to accomodate more subscribers, they delayed the box for a month and if you’re in the list, it should reach you latest by early September 🙂

So lets get to it!

I was truly surprised when I saw this in the box, I love Dettol products and this is a pretty decent-sized bottle!
Plus, it smells wonderful!!

2) Darlie Expert White

Darlie Expert White

This was also a good size!
It is said to “help whiten teeth, remove stains, dental plaque and tartar“. Will give it a try once I’m done with my current one.

3) Glucoscare Tea

image

Glucoscare Tea

A natural herbal tea that is proven to lower sugar absorption in the body.
I’m not too big of a fan for herbal tea… so perhaps I’d share this with my mom instead.

4) Purer Skin Miracle Serum

image

Purer Skin Miracle Serum

A miracle serum! Supposedly to help “reduce fine lines and wrinkles”. And it’s said to be made with “100% Pure Bird’s Nest”. Wowzas!
Question is…. would it work?

IKYU – where modern creativity meets japanese

Hello! It’s already Friday! Weekends ahead! Anyone has plans as of yet?

Well today, I’m gonna bring you some photos from my visit at Ikyu some time ago.

Ikyu is a little restaurant along the less roamed around places in Tiong Bahru. It has this huuuuuge and very heavy metal door that has proven to be difficult to open from the outside. But no worries, when you’re lingering around the door, their friendly staff will open the door for you and welcome you in.

Stepping in, everyone shouts welcome in japanese, not like the usual japanese restaurants around here.
The interior is a mix of warm tones and metal – industrial would be the right description. Somehow it’s a pretty soothing and comfortable ambience.

The menu exterior is beautiful.

image

Just 2 pages of worded menu, the feel is much like a mix between fine and casual dining in my opinion. There’s not much of a description of what exactly the listed menu items are, so the addition of that may be useful for first timers.

So here is what we ordered:

The food was really yummy. I prefer the sides to the main.
The pork and asparagus was…perfection. thin slices of pork wrapped around the crunchy asparagus. Yummmm.

You can learn more about the restaurant at their website.

Have you been to Ikyu? What are your thoughts? Let me know 🙂

Froyo yo!

Happy mid week! We survived the first half of the week!

Work has taken a toll on me, but it ain’t the peak yet. Next week…. that’s the “terrible” part. Long hours and late nights, here I come.

So anyways…
After lunch, me and a colleague went to Red Mango to get some froyo! We both got the original flavor, hers topped with mango while mine topped with banana crunch.

image

Froyoooooooo~ ★

Yummmmm. It was my first time trying the banana crunch topping and I love it! I want MOOOOOOORE! And I’m now craving for Banana Nut Crunch cereal too (._.)

Well I’m hoping to do my nails soon, I’m still wearing the Lilas one… it’s holding on pretty good I must say, no visible chips no displacement of glitter! To think I didn’t use a topcoat!

On a separate note, I received an email from Kiroi (owner of Kiroi Cheese Cake) saying that there were new faces going down to the shop in Golden Mile since 2 days ago! The owner thinks my posting and review helped! So yay to you readers! I’m hoping to drop by for a visit soon 🙂

Have you tried anything from Kiroi Cheese Cake? Let me know what you think!

Well now we have 2 more days till the weekend! If I can do it, you can too!

NOTD – Glam Polish Lilas, Swatched

Anyone having the Monday blues? Well, not me cuz I took the day off from work!
So I’m good, for now…

Anyway, today is a nail post!
I recieved Glam Polish’s Lilas from my Aussie friend a couple of weeks back and upon seeing the beautiful glitter, I can’t wait to try it!

Here is Lilas in the bottle:

image

image

So what I did was I had 2 coats of Sinful Color’s Sweet Nothing and 1 generous coat of Glam Polish’s Lilas.

image

image

Outdoor sunlight shot

image

#cressays:
The glitter inside Lilas is beautiful! All pinks and purples. All the various sizes of glitter! ♡
Dry time was average, leaning towards a lil long. Even after 10 to 15 mins, it was still a little tacky on touch.

A simple swatch, a simple post. Hope you guys like it 🙂

Stamping Stamping – the review

Hello again! Hope you’re having / have had a great weekend 🙂

So I finally got down to testing out my stamps. And well… there were some ups and downs…

Here are the ones I bought:

image

The Ballerina and Fairy DIY set

image

Miss and Mr Stamp

image

The long wooden stamps

image

The inkpads

Let the picture do the talking, shall we:

image

image

image

Well, overall, the black and the silver inkpads worked the best.

As for the stamps, they all stamped well. BUT, both the fairy set and the Miss and Mr stamp set didn’t stick well.
They are both DIYs, so you gotta stick the rubber stamp part to the sponge/wood. That part didn’t stick well. I believe they may have been in stock for too long – thus the gooey sticky (but don’t stick well) part.

Oh, and for the ink pads, the pink one is waaaaay too watery…
I can only stamp blobs:

image

As for the gold ink pad…. totally doesn’t work.
You’d think that the gold one would stand out in black like the silver one did, but no, it turned out just plain oily…

image

And so I thought, maybe it’ll stamp well enough on a white background…

image

And then I was disappointed again…

My conclusion:
Go for the non DIY stamps – like the long stamps. They stamp well, and you don’t have to worry about sticking them on securely.
As for the inkpads, if you’re just looking for regular paper stamping, you can actually get a variety at Daiso:

image

The orange ones you see above all came from here. I believe this is water based, so it may appear a little sheer when stamped.

Let me know if you have any tips on stamping! Or if you have had some recent stamping project.

Have a great week ahead!

Of Cheesecake and Red Ruby

Hello!

Remember I posted about Kiroi’s Cheese Cake yesterday? Well I tried it straight out from the fridge today!

Firstly, some pictures…

image

Straight from the box...

image

image

image

A slice of cheesy goodness

#cressays:
It is soft and fluffy! The cheese taste is just right, really light and yummy.
The owner told me that by eating it right after taking out from the fridge, the cheese taste would stand out more. Whereas if you eat it straight out from the oven, it tastes more egg than cheese.
I helped myself to a second slice straight away after finishing my first. It’s simply irresistible!

On another note, I had a family gathering tonight and my uncle bought me Red Ruby! No, not the jewel, it’s a thai dessert (though mine is not the authentic Thai one)

image

That red thing is the “red ruby”, it’s actually water chestnut bits covered with a jelly/gelatin like substance.
I have been craving it for weeks now, and I must say my craving is rightly satisfied now.

What’s your favorite dessert? Or what have you been craving for lately? Leave me a note and let me know 🙂

P.S.
Tomorrow, I will be reviewing the stamp sets I got last week, so stay tuned!

Of neons and cupcakes

Happy Friday y’all!

I took the day off today, and spent some time with the family.
I was all dressed up in my neon gear!

image

Neon top, neon nails. Woot!
And I wore that beautiful necklace that was gifted to me a by my Aussie friend Stace.
This is the first time that I actually wore something neon – i.e. my neon pink top.

Anyways… we went to Singapore Expo. And there was a little food fair (Food of Asia 2013) going on in Hall 4.
We walked around and then spotted this stall with the cutest cupcake!

Have you ever seen a mini macaroon on a cupcake?
I just did, today.
And so we bought 2 boxes of cupcakes, one full of oreo, and one of the macaroon ones (they named it Macaron).

The oreo one:

image

#cressays:
While oreo seems to be a common flavor in cupcakes and cheesecakes alike, this one did not stand out. In fact, the cream was a little too buttery and left a very strong aftertaste.
The base cake was dense but good.

Let’s move on to the Macaron:

image

And closer…

image

Annnnnd even closer:

image

That is so cute! I really love how it looks.

#cressays:
I love this one, and not only for how it looks. That mini macaroon tasted great! It really shows that they pay attention to the lil details. The cream on this was just right for me, sprinkled with red-colored sugar adds that lil extra sweetness.
The base, again was dense, but tasted really good.
Oh, and it was pretty filling. (Due to the base cake I think)

Their specialty is their “Freshly Baked Cheesecake” that we also bought 1 box of. When test-tasting it there, it was all light and fluffy. The staff recommended chilling it before serving so that the cheese flavor would stand out more.

Nothing to do this weekend? Why not head on down to see and taste for yourself?
I am absolutely not affiliated with them in any way, but just thought you may wanna go down and take a look.

Prices:
Cheesecake – $8 / box
Cupcakes (several flavors) – $1.30 / cupcake; $7.60 for a box of 6.

They have a website too, though pretty empty, but I believe their shop location is listed there. Visit them here.

I personally think they should sell macaroons. Cuz  their mini ones really tasted good.

Happy weekend~ ★
